It is very challenging to farm fruit crops organically. Dad is using various methods. Integrated pest management is where pest populations are being monitored and accessing before action is taken. Dad uses what some call “soft methods”. This means when he has to go into the orchard with a pesticide he chooses pesticides that are not as harsh. He also has started an Agro K program that reduces the use of chemical fertilizers and increases the soil and tree's ability to fend against pests. Most certainly there is an effort by my family to reduce the cost both environmentally and financially of non-organic methods of pest control. The reality is that it is very hard to produce an attractive and marketable crop of fruit without the intervention of science. Dad is working towards a less intervening way one step at a time. I hope this helps your understanding of what is happening on the fruit farm.
You can arrange for someone you know to pick up your share on your behalf, your share will be donated or, on occasion, you can request to pick up your share at another delivery location.
